President's Corner

Dear Members and Friends,

To most of us, it seems we can’t wait until the year is over hoping the next would be a better one.  However, in spite of the economic meltdown that many of us are still experiencing, we still believe or should I say, we want to believe that the end of the tunnel doesn’t seem to be too far fetched.

There are still a lot of projects that the FilAm Chamber of Commerce would need to undertake to be able to better serve the community.  We are trying to do everything we can  to be able to accomplish what we have set up to do. That’s why, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the FACC members who have done their part to help us especially, the members of the Board who are always there for their support. All of these in the name of community service.

We at the FilAm Chamber have dedicated ourselves to find ways to be able to reach more possible members in the business world. Come join us and let us explore the many possibilities we can take by meeting other professionals and experts of other fields who may be able to impart newer ideas in us. We won’t only  meet new entrepreneurs but we will be able to foster unbelievable friendships to accomplish our goals and at the same time, help each other along the way.

Come attend the FilAm Chamber’s Business Mixers and Networking events and meet more possible clients and friends.

In the coming months, FACC is set  to open this website for advertising spaces in order for businesses to reach more clients. We would like to encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity at a very good price that will be announced pretty soon.

ANNOUNCEMENTS  &  NEWS

From Supervisor Dave Cortese...

Do you wish you could follow county happenings from your own home?
I am pleased to announce that many of the Board of Supervisors meetings and Board Committee meetings will be broadcast for home viewing. A selection of both current and previously recorded meetings can be seen on local cable stations. For more information on the availability of these meetings in your area, please visit the Santa Clara County website or call our office at 299-5030. The meetings can also be viewed online at www.sccgov.org.

Do you know of any youth who want to make a difference in their community?
Santa Clara County is looking for a group of youth to participate in the County’s Youth Task Force. The Youth Task Force advises the Board on issues that impact youth. This is a great opportunity for youth in our community to actively participate in government and make an impact on governmental decisions. Members of the Youth Task Force gain leadership experience, develop skills in working with people, and influence the lives of the teens in Santa Clara County. For more information on the Youth Task Force, or if you know of someone who would be interested in joining the Youth Task Force, please contact Tiffany Lee in my office at 299-5030 or tiffany.lee@bos.sccgov.org.

Looking for a great date night?
The Tech Museum has a new monthly themed event for adults 21 and over. This after-hours event is a great opportunity to enjoy science, technology, and entertainment with friends. With a new theme each month, this is great way to keep learning and expanding your mind. For more information on this, and other Tech Museum programs, please visit their website.

Would you, or do you know someone who would, like to advise the Board of Supervisors?
There are a number of openings on Santa Clara County’s Boards and Commissions.  Members of these boards and commissions advise the Board of Supervisors about issues and concerns that they see or hear about in the community.  I thought that you, or someone you know, might be interested applying for any one of the open positions. There are many Boards and Commissions to choose from.  I have listed a few examples below to show the variety of areas covered by our boards and commissions:

  • Consumer Affairs;
  • National Guard and Veterans Affairs;
  • Senior Care; and more.

If you would like more information about serving on a Board or Commission or would like to see the list of opening we have available, please visit my website or contact Michelle Osorio in my office by e-mail at michelle.osorio@bos.sccgov.org or by phone at 408-299-5030.
